Kayden Maskelony is the winner of the  American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Essay contest in the class V division. She competed against students from the three high schools in Portsmouth and students at KFHS. The essay prompt was "What does Freedom mean to me?"

Kayden received a financial award. Her essay has moved forward to the state where a decision will be made from unit winners of whether a financial donation will be made in the winner's name to the Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship Fund.
