Health and Medical Sciences courses prepare students with basic skills for employment in nursing homes, clinics, medical offices, hospitals, homes, and other public health settings. Technical and professional career opportunities that may be of interest to students include: physician, medical scientist, biomedical engineer, physician’s assistant, lab technician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, recreational therapist, nurse practitioner, and veterinarian.

The Virginia Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is the recognized co-curricular student organization for approved Health Occupations Education programs and courses. HOSA activities reinforce the skills, knowledge, and behavior that contribute to successful employment.

To affiliate and participate in HOSA activities sponsored by the state and national organizations, students must hold paid membership in the local HOSA chapter at his/her high school.
