HOSA STUDENTS VISIT OBICI HOSPITAL

Students enrolled in the Introduction to Health Occupations course with Mrs. Rose Jones, Instructor, recently had the opportunity to talk with medical personnel from nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, emergency room, labor and delivery, and the operating room departments. They were able to practice medical techniques such as suturing, CPR, injections, and much more.

Obici hospital was very generous and provided the students with an excellent experience. The hospital topped it all off with lunch for everyone in the cafeteria and gifts for the students (including their own copy of Virginia Health Careers 2005-2007).

Health Occupations of America (HOSA) is a career and technical education student organization recognized by the United States Department of Education that provides a unique program of leadership exclusively for secondary and post-secondary collegiate students enrolled in Health Science Technology Education programs.

HOSA held their installation ceremony on November 9, 2005 at Obici Hospital. Students from LHS, NRHS and KFHS were all represented at this ceremony. The president from each club gave a brief speech on what it meant for them to be an officer in HOSA. All officers from each school participated in the ceremony.

Also in attendance were parents, friends, family, state HOSA representatives, school administrators and hospital officials.

The HOSA mission is “to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health occupations students therefore, helping the students to meet the needs of the health care community”
