Path to Industry Certification Program
Governor Warner’s initiative to better prepare students for life after high school,
while reducing the cost of college tuition and technical training.

The Path to Industry Certification Program is a tuition-free college program offered at several community colleges in the Commonwealth. This program, offered at Paul D. Camp Community College and Tidewater Community College, will prepare students to earn an industry certification or state licensure in a specific job or career. The Path to Industry Certification Program is for high school seniors with no college plans, lack occupational/technical skills, and who are on schedule to graduate in June 2005 with a standard or advanced studies diploma. Dual enrollment students with no existing postsecondary education plans and CTE completers who have not received the instruction and/or skills necessary to successfully complete an industry certification or state licensure may qualify for this program.

Last school year, 224 high school seniors across the Commonwealth of Virginia participated in this tuition-free college program to earn an industry certification or state licensure. Forty-two (42) students are still actively participating in the program. Several students have completed the tuition-free college program and have earned industry certifications or state licenses. This school year, Governor Warner has set the goal to 1,500 high school seniors in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
