ABOUT US

Do you remember your first day of school... the excitement of learning new things and meeting new friends? A person's earliest memory of formal education goes back to those first years in elementary school. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are involved in studies that ensure a mastery of the basic skills in reading, writing and math.

The mission of the elementary instructional services is to provide effective educational experiences that prepare students to find success in our complex society. The programs included on the elementary level are: Early Start, Kindergarten, Grades 1st – 5th in the content areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, history/social science, music, physical education, Title I, Limited English Proficient (LEP), Enrichment, Gifted Education and Special Education. Every member of the elementary school staff, including guidance counselors, teachers, teacher assistants, principals, librarians and nurses, works with each elementary school student to achieve a good balance in mental, physical and social development.

The central office administrative staff includes: Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Instructional Services, Coordinator of Elementary Education, Coordinator of Compensatory Programs, Parent Relations Specialist, Family Service Worker, Content Area Lead Teachers, Supervisor of Research and Testing and a Data Analyst.

The elementary program offered in Suffolk’s thirteen (13) elementary schools enables students to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for academic achievement. At the start of each year, parents are given the grade level objectives and expectations for their children.
