and Remediation
for Middle School Summer School Attendance

Summer School for Possible
Promotion
- The core subjects (English, Mathematics,
Science, and Social Studies) will be offered.
- Students may take only one subject in summer
school.
- Students who failed one core course may repeat
that course in summer school to be considered for promotion
in the fall.
- Regular attendance and academic achievement
will be required for promotion. Regular attendance is defined
as having no more than three absences during summer school.
- Weekly progress and performance on end of
summer assessments will determine academic achievement for promotion.
Summer School for
Remediation
- The three core subjects (English,
Mathematics, and Social Studies) will be offered for remediation
purposes.
- Students who passed all four core subjects but failed at least one end of year SOL test are required to attend summer school or receive other approved remediation for that course.
- Students who passed all core subjects but did not master the division's SOL ongoing assessments are required to attend summer school or receive other approved remediation.
- Students failing two or more classes will be considered for summer remediation. If a student fails two or more core subjects, he/she will be placed in a core subject as follows:
