Kindergarten 2008

Virginia School Law says that children may enter school if they are
five (5)
years old on or before September 30, 2008.

The kindergarten program in Suffolk Public Schools follows the full-day elementary schedule.  Students arrive by bus about 8:30 a.m., can eat school breakfast, start class at 9:15 a.m., and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.

All elementary schools except Driver Elementary School, which houses grades 2-5, have a kindergarten program.  If you do not know where your child will be attending school in September, you can verify your school attendance zone by going to our School Locator in the upper right-hand corner of our homepage. Type in your street address.  It will list the elementary, middle and high school for that address.

Bring the following information about your child to Kindergarten registration:
      *  A certified copy of State Birth Certificate;
      *  A certificate of physical examination from a physician or a health department;
      *  An immunization certificate containing complete dates for Hepatitis B, DPT, polio,
          varicella and MMR immunizations and;
      *  Proof of residency in the city of Suffolk.
Only the following will be accepted as
         proof of residency: A lease agreement or an electric, water or gas bill in your name.

       (Only one (1) document is required for proof of residency).

Registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14
at all elementary schools that have kindergarten classes.
