Public Information

Suffolk Public Schools has plenty of good news to share with the community. But without some coordination, that good news sometimes fails to reach out beyond the classroom walls.

This website is designed to offer tips on getting the good news out to the community. It will help you reach out to parents and beyond. Business and government leaders, retired residents, Realtors and new residents, and taxpayers who have no children in our schools still need to know what Suffolk Public Schools are all about. Because of their financial commitment, they all have a stake in making Suffolk Public Schools the best they can be.

News media are an important component of a successful school-community relations program. Each school should make it a priority to inform the media about the many good and exciting things which happen every day. News people want to be kept informed about what is going on in the schools, and they need to receive as much advance notice as possible. By using the "NEWS TIP" form, found on this website, you increase the chance of your good news getting wider visibility in the community.

The division's public information officer is here to provide that vital link between you --the teachers, administrators, support staff and PTAs of our many schools -- and the various print and broadcast mediums which cover Suffolk happenings. The public information officer offers many supportive services to schools and school-related organizations. They include:

  • Asking the media to cover school events through stories, photographs and videotapes;
  • Publicizing upcoming events and newsworthy items on WSPS-Cable Channel 6, the division's own educational access channel through Charter Cable; Use NEWS TIP form.
  • Including items of interest and concern to Suffolk Public Schools' employees in the Stargazer Online, which is published bimonthly during the school year and distributed to every employee as well as key local and regional leaders; Use NEWS TIP form.
  • Highlighting new and innovative instructional programs, and interesting people on “Starlight Journal” – a twice-monthly feature program.
  • Arranging the monthly "Good News Report" presented to the School Board during its televised meetings to share with the public some of the winning ideas and winning students in Suffolk Public Schools.
