Special Education Advisory Committee

S.E.A.C

The Special Education Advisory Committee is appointed by the School Board to advise the Board through the division Superintendent. The membership of the SEAC includes parents of students with disabilities, persons with disabilities, and community agencies that assist students with disabilities.

All meetings are held at King's Fork Middle School.  Please check the information board in the lobby for the room number.

The functions of the Special Education Advisory Committee are:

  • to advise the Local Education Agency (Suffolk Public Schools) of unmet needs in the education of children with disabilities
  • to assist the Suffolk Public Schools in the formulation and development of long-range plans which will provide services needed for children with disabilities in the Suffolk Public Schools and the community
  • to participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities
  • to submit periodic reports and recommendations to the Suffolk Public School Board through the division superintendent regarding the education of children with disabilities
  • to assist the Suffolk Public Schools in interpreting the community plans for meeting the needs of children with disabilities for educational advancement
