Technology Projects Happening in 2007/2008

Description |
SOLO Scanning |
SOLO (short for SOL Online), a local assessment system developed by our own Chris Baugh, has some new tricks this spring. Through a collaborative effort with Spotsylvania County Schools we have been able to integrate a Lexmark Scanner with SOLO. This now allows paper test to have detailed item analysis and instant feed back without having to manually key the data into the computer! Teachers can now choose to test students on the computer or in a traditional classroom setting and still receive SOL aligned data for improving student achievement. |
Replacement Computers

Elementary, Middle, & High - Replacing computers ~five years or older.

ICarts |
ICarts is a cart that contains a wireless computer, School Pad, speakers, projector, keyboard, mouse, and power cord. The ICart allows the classroom teacher to easily integrate Technology into the classroom without a tangle of wires. The teacher simply rolls the cart into the classroom and plugs in the power, logs into the network, and is ready to share lessons with the entire class. We have receive many positive experiences from teachers along with many requests for additional ICarts. About 50 ICarts have been deployed throughout the district and more are planned. |
Video Conferencing |
Video conferencing between buildings and with NASA is now available in all the schools. Quality voice and video conferencing is simple as making a phone call. Roll a TV into the classroom, connect a Tandberg Video Conferencing unit into the TV and the network, and dial the extension of the other site. Contact your building ITRT to coordinate a video conferencing session. |

Wireless networking for the district has become an ongoing project. The demand for greater bandwidth and coverage continues to grow as we add additional wireless devices. This year we have added fifty additional wireless access points at Nansemond River High School and in March 2008 we will add fifty additional access points to Lakeland High School. In April 2008 we will plan the wireless for King’s Fork high School. The additional wireless access points at these sites increase the site coverage to 99% of the building and about a 100’ perimeter each building. The Middle Schools will be completed as funding allows.
