Booker T. Washington Elementary School … Orientation for Early Start and grades K-5 will be held Thursday, August 31  from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Labeled supplies may be brought to school at this time. Kindergarten orientation will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents will have a brief overview by staff and then report to respective classrooms for meet and greet with assigned teacher. All other students and parents should report to their assigned classroom to visit and meet the teacher. Call the school at 934-6226 for more information.

 

Creekside Elementary School … Orientation for grades 1-5, as well as Ms. Johnson and Ms. Rockett’s classes, will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Students and parents should report to their assigned homeroom class to visit and meet the teacher.  Labeled supplies for students may be brought to school at this time. Kindergarten orientation will begin promptly at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria.  Parents will have a brief overview by staff from 9 to 10 a.m. and then report to respective classrooms for meet and greet with their assigned teacher.  Call the school at 923-4251 for additional information.

 

Driver Elementary School  Orientation for students in ECSE, Early Start and grades K-5 will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Kindergarten parents will report to the cafeteria at 9 a.m. to meet with all kindergarten teachers. All other students and parents are to report to their child’s assigned homeroom class. Parents are encouraged to bring any supplies, labeled with student’s name to orientation.  Call the school at 923-4106 for more information.

 

Elephant’s Fork Elementary School … Orientation for Early Start and grades K-5 will be held Thursday, August 31.  Early Start and kindergarten orientation will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Kindergarten orientation will take place promptly at 9 a.m. in the gym for a quick overview and then teachers and parents will proceed to the kindergarten classrooms.  Orientation for grades 1-5 will take place from 11a.m. to 12 noon in the assigned classrooms.  Labeled supplies may be brought to school at this time.  Call the school at 923-5250 for more information.

 

Hillpoint Elementary School … Orientation for Early Start and grades K-5 will be held Thursday, August 31 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Labeled supplies may be brought to school at this time. Kindergarten orientation will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents will have a brief overview by staff and then report to respective classrooms for meet and greet with assigned teacher. Kilby Shores Elementary School … Orientation for Early Start and grades K-5 will be held Thursday, August 31 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Labeled supplies may be brought to school at this time. Parents will have a brief overview by staff and then report to respective classrooms for meet and greet with assigned teacher. Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary School … Orientation for grades K-5 will be held Thursday, August 31 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Kindergarten parents will meet in the cafeteria at 1:00 pm  for a brief introduction and then report to their child’s room. Grades 1-5 students and parents will report directly to their child’s assigned homeroom class.  Orientation for Early Start will be held the same day from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Nansemond Parkway Elementary School … Orientation for grades K-5 and Early Start will be held on Thursday, August 31. Early Start classroom visitations will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. along with a presentation in the cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. For K-5 students, classroom visitations will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Labeled supplies may also be brought to school at this time.  Call the school at 923-4167 for more information.

Pioneer Elementary School  Orientation for students in  Early Start and grades K-5 will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Kindergarten parents will report to the cafeteria at 9 a.m. to meet with all kindergarten teachers. All other students and parents are to report to their child’s assigned homeroom class. Parents are encouraged to bring any supplies, labeled with student’s name to orientation.  Call the school at 925-5782 for more information.

 

Turlington Woods School … Orientation will be held for all students assigned to the Daytime Alternative Program on Thursday, August 31 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is mandatory for all students and parents/guardians to attend orientation before starting the program for the 2017-18 school year. Forest Glen Middle School … 
  • FGMS 6th Grade Transition Program and Picnic will be held Wednesday, August 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This event will have scheduled parent and student sessions that will begin at 4 p.m.  Therefore, it is important that all participants plan to be present fromp.m. to 7 p.m.  The Forest Glen Middle School will sponsor a picnic at the end of the transition program for all 6th grade students and their parents in the cafeteria. Parents will be able to purchase PE uniforms, lock rental for the hall lockers and a FGMS agenda (a customized calendar/homework assignment notebook). The purpose of the transition program is to encourage parents to be active participants in their child’s middle school career, to introduce rising 6th graders to middle school life, and to establish a relationship between the parents, students, and teachers.  Parents and students will also learn about the format of semester courses, as well as Accelerated Reader (AR) requirements. Schedules will only be issued to 6th grade students who have received their Tdap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school.  The nurse will be available to verify shot records for those who have not submitted this documentation.  Avoid the line to see the nurse by submitting your child’s shot record prior to Wednesday, August 23. Call the school at 925-5780 for more information.
  • FGMS 7th & 8th Grade Orientation will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students may pick up their schedules at this time. Gym uniforms, agendas, and locks will be available for purchase.  Call the school at 925-5780 for more information. 
John F. Kennedy Middle School …
  • JFKMS 6th Grade Transition/Orientation will be held on Wednesday August 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the building and staff prior to the opening of school.  Class schedules and bus schedules will be available.  Schedules will only be issued to 6th grade students who have received their Tdap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school. Lockers, locks, agendas, and gym uniforms will be available for purchase as well.   • JYMS 6th Grade Transition Night Wednesday, August 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  All sixth-graders and their families are invited to learn the basics of middle school, tour the building and pick up schedules upon presenting Tdap verification.  Avoid the line to see the nurse by submitting your child’s shot record prior to August, 23.  Fees for locks, gym uniforms and agendas may be paid during this time.  Contact the school at 923-4105 for more information.

King’s Fork Middle School
  • KFMS 6th Grade Transition Night … Wednesday, August 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Enjoy pizza and a drink from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (student plus 2 guests), learn about all things sixth grade… lockers, classes, expectations from 5:30 to 6:00.  Parents will be able to tour the building learn how to read a student’s schedule, meet teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators, find answers for their questions about middle school and connect with former classmates and meet new classmates. Parents must RSVP for pizza dinner (student plus two guests) by phone at 923-5246 or by email at kfmsjaguars@gmail.com by Monday, August 21.Schedules will only be issued to sixth grade students who have received their T-dap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school. King’s Fork High School
  • KFHS Freshman Transition ProgramThursday, August 17 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Students and parents will have the opportunity to join the PTSA, purchase gym uniforms, meet the administrative team, tour the school and find out more about school clubs.  Registration is required. Lakeland High School …
  • LHS Freshman Transition ProgramThursday, August 17 from 12:30 – 3:00  Parents and students will be able to tour the school and learn about the numerous academic, extracurricular and support programs available at Lakeland High School. You must register in order to attend.  Space will be limited so register early.  You may also register in person at Lakeland High School Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. & 5:30 p.m.  The deadline for registration is Monday, August 14, 2017. Nansemond River High School …

The College and Career Academy at Pruden … Tuesday, August 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Currently enrolled as well as non enrolled students and parents in middle and high school are encouraged to tour the facility and meet the teachers.  The opening session will begin promptly at 6 p.m. in the teachers’ classrooms for those enrolled with schedules. All other visitors may enter any classroom to gather information for future enrollment.  Administrative and support staff will be available to answer questions about our FIRST Governor’s Academy, Public Works Academy, and Licensure/Certifications.  For more information, call the center at 923-5254.
