Transition Programs for 6th-Graders

  • Forest Glen Middle School – 6th Grade Transition Program and Picnic will be held Wednesday, August 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This event will have scheduled parent and student sessions that will begin at 4 p.m.  Therefore, it is important that all participants plan to be present from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The Forest Glen Middle School will sponsor a picnic at the end of the transition program for all 6th grade students and their parents in the cafeteria. Parents will be able to purchase PE uniforms, lock rental for the hall lockers and a FGMS agenda (a customized calendar/homework assignment notebook). The purpose of the transition program is to encourage parents to be active participants in their child’s middle school career, to introduce rising 6th graders to middle school life, and to establish a relationship between the parents, students, and teachers.  Parents and students will also learn about the format of semester courses, as well as Accelerated Reader (AR) requirements. Schedules will only be issued to 6th grade students who have received their Tdap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school.  The nurse will be available to verify shot records for those who have not submitted this documentation.  Avoid the line to see the nurse by submitting your child’s shot record prior to Wednesday, August 23. Call the school at 925-5780 for more information.

  • John F. Kennedy Middle School – 6th Grade Transition/Orientation will be held on Wednesday August 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the building and staff prior to the opening of school.  Class schedules and bus schedules will be available.  Schedules will only be issued to 6th grade students who have received their Tdap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school. Lockers, locks, agendas, and gym uniforms will be available for purchase as well.   • John Yeates Middle School – 6th Grade Transition Night … Wednesday, August 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  All sixth-graders and their families are invited to learn the basics of middle school, tour the building and pick up schedules upon presenting Tdap verification.  Avoid the line to see the nurse by submitting your child’s shot record prior to August, 23.  Fees for locks, gym uniforms and agendas may be paid during this time.  Contact the school at 923-4105 for more information.

  • King’s Fork Middle School – 6th Grade Transition Night … Wednesday, August 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Enjoy pizza and a drink from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (student plus 2 guests), learn about all things sixth grade… lockers, classes, expectations from 5:30 to 6:00.  Parents will be able to tour the building learn how to read a student’s schedule, meet teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators, find answers for their questions about middle school and connect with former classmates and meet new classmates. Parents must RSVP for pizza dinner (student plus two guests) by phone at 923-5246 or by email at kfmsjaguars@gmail.com by Monday, August 21.Schedules will only be issued to sixth grade students who have received their T-dap booster shot and have provided documentation to the school.
