Classroom Procedures |
|
Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures for using a telephone book, boarding an airplane, approaching a traffic light, and attending a wedding. The reason that we have procedures in life is so that people can function in society knowing the acceptable and efficient way other people do things.
The following are procedures for this classroom. These procedures establish our classroom culture.
What do I do when I first enter the classroom? -> Sharpen pencils. You may not sharpen pencils during instructional time! ->Look at the Preview Board and complete problems. -> Look at the Homework Board. If you were assigned a problem from last nights homework, quietly come to the Homework Board and complete the problem. If you are not sure of the answer or have a question, you may ask your assigned assistant to help you. Voice Mode at the homework board should be 1. ->If you need to use the restroom, this is the time to do so. Please come and get your agenda signed and quickly use restroom and return to class. ->Once you have entered the classroom, you MAY NOT leave the classroom without a signed agenda!
What if I am late for class? ->If you are late for class, you must attach your tardy slip to the “YOU ARE LATE” clipboard and sign in. Please quietly enter the classroom and take your seat. At the first available moment either someone from your group or myself will come and get you started on the activities of the class. Please do not cause a disruption. You must always sign in. If you do not have a tardy slip from the office or a note from another teacher, you have an unexcused tardy. Three unexcused tardies will result in a disciplinary referral.
What if I need the attention of the teacher? -> If the class is in individual mode, you should take out the red card from your Interactive Notebook (IAN) and place it on your desk. This will signal to me as I walk around the classroom that you need assistance and I will be more than happy to help you. If for some reason, I don’t notice your card on your desk after two or three minutes, please quietly raise your hand.
How do we walk down the hall? -> Arms folded. -> Voice Mode 0: Silence (We will not walk down the hall if even one person is talking!) -> Face forward -> Stand on both feet -> Stand BEHIND the person in front of you.
What if I am absent? -> If you are absent, it is your responsibility to come to me and find out what you missed. All hand outs for your Interactive Notebook will be placed in the folders on the bookshelf. Please find what you are missing. If you miss a test, you have three days to make it up. After three days, it will go into the grade book as missing, which calculates as a zero
What if my teacher needs to get the attention of the class? -> I have a bell that is red and shaped like an apple. If the class is working in groups or individually, and I need you to come back as a whole class, I will ring the bell two times. At that time, I need you to follow three easy steps: 1. FREEZE and be silent. 2. Turn and face me. Pay close attention and keep your eyes on me. 3. Be ready for instruction. I have something to say.
What can I do if I finish an assignment early? -> Read your DEAR book -> Work on a writing assignment -> Write a letter -> Take-It-To-Your-Seat
Morning Announcements -> When the announcements begin, there should be absolutely no talking. Talking during announcements will result in a behavior reflection. There should be no talking during the moment of silence. This is a time to be quiet and respectful. We should also be respectful during the Pledge of Allegiance.
What do we do when visitors are in the classroom? -> When visitors enter our classroom, we should continue our classroom as normal. Please do not make gestures or commotions or cause a disturbance. They are there to observe our class and we want to show them what great Math Geniuses we are!
How do we ask people for things? -> Look the person in the eye. -> Say the person’s name. -> Ask the person for what you want and say “Please”. -> If the person says “yes”, thank them for sharing.
