By the time students get to middle school, they have had quite a bit of school experience, and they know how to behave in a classroom situation. They should have developed the ability to self-monitor and control their actions to a large extent, and they will be expected to do so in my class.

Therefore, there are only four rules in Mrs. Del-Castillo's class. They are easy to remember, and I expect all to think about the actions and consequences before proceeding.

Here are some examples of ways you can be appropriate in class.

.

The Class Rules are:

1. Be Polite

2. Be Prepared

3. Be Positive

4. Be Punctual

Follow all directions.

Keep hands, feet and objects to self.

No swearing or teasing.

Show appropriate behavior for the current class mode.

Behavior Consequences

I record behavior marks on my clipboard during class, and I will let you know that you have received one. It is your responsibility to keep track of your marks. These marks are transferred to the grade book over the weekend as a behavior /participation grade. Each strike will take off 5 points from your behavior /participation grade.  This grade will be located under class work in Grade Speed.  I send out e-mails over the weekend to let your parents know if you received any behavior marks during the previous week and how many marks you have accumulated during the nine weeks. These marks accumulate for an entire nine weeks. At the beginning of a new nine weeks, each student starts with a clean slate.

There are four phrases that I hear too often in classes. I don't like them, and I don't allow them. They aren't necessarily "bad" or foul language, and, true, we hear them on the T.V. all the time, but for a lot of students, they have become habit.

Nevertheless, the habit stops here! Please do not say the following phrases in class. Each detracts from your weekly participation grade.

· "I didn't do anything!"

· "That's not fair!"

· "Are we doing anything important today?"

· "Did I miss anything?"

After two marks are given for the same behavior, I will either call or e-mail your parent or guardian.  After three marks for the same behavior are given, the student will have a behavior reflection assignment .  This assignment will be due within two days and must be signed by a parent or guardian.  If the assignment is not complete or if the behavior continues, a conference will be held with an administrator.

Can I Earn Any of My Behavior Points Back???

Absolutely!  Everyone has a bad day every once in a while!  I believe that we should create a positive environment in order to achieve the most learning.  You can earn back lost behavior points by being a positive role model in our classroom, working well in your group, completing classwork, being prepared for class and staying on task.
