Why modes?  Modes set the tone for our classroom and let the students know what I expect at all times...no surprises!  I will have a sign that lets them know exactly what mode we are in and the expectations will be posted.  As we switch modes, the signs will change.

Cloud Callout: I know that I read it somewhere...whole class mode means that I should listen to the speaker and keep my eyes glued to the front!

Voice Modes:

0 -> Complete Silence.  No one should be talking except for the speaker.  If we are in testing mode, there should be absolute silence.

1->  Whisper.  This is known as your 3 inch voice.  If I am standing more than three inches away from you, I should not be able to hear you.

2-> Conversation. This is known as your 6 inch voice.  If I am standing more than 6 inches away from you, I should not be able to hear you.

3-> Presentation.  You are the speaker.  Project your voice loud enough for everyone in the class to hear you!  This is your chance to shine...Remember to make eye contact and SMILE!
