WHOLE CLASS -> eyes to the front -> listen to the speaker -> stay in your seat -> Voice Mode: 0 |
INDIVIDUAL -> raise hand to ask for help ->stay in seat unless given permission ->work on your own ->Voice Mode: 0 |
SMALL GROUP - > stay in group unless you are on a task-related mission ->stay on task -> Voice Mode: 2 |
TRANSITIONAL ->follow directions ->move to destination as quickly and quietly as possible ->get prepared in the minimum amount of time without distracting others -> Voice Mode: 1 |
TESTING ->eyes on own paper ->raise hand if you have a question -> ABSOLUTELY no talking, Voice Mode: 0 -> stay seated AT ALL TIMES! |
Why modes? Modes set the tone for our classroom and let the students know what I expect at all times...no surprises! I will have a sign that lets them know exactly what mode we are in and the expectations will be posted. As we switch modes, the signs will change. |

Voice Modes: 0 -> Complete Silence. No one should be talking except for the speaker. If we are in testing mode, there should be absolute silence.
1-> Whisper. This is known as your 3 inch voice. If I am standing more than three inches away from you, I should not be able to hear you.
2-> Conversation. This is known as your 6 inch voice. If I am standing more than 6 inches away from you, I should not be able to hear you.
3-> Presentation. You are the speaker. Project your voice loud enough for everyone in the class to hear you! This is your chance to shine...Remember to make eye contact and SMILE! |
