Ms. Truitt’s 8th Grade English Class

The Who, What, Where, Why, and How….

Rewards and Procedures

Rewards:

Individual:

Students will work towards earning a 100% for their bi-weekly participation grade.

Every two weeks, a student from each class will be selected as a Super Star Student. These students will receive class recognition, a phone call home, and a chance to win a collection of goodies at the end of the nine weeks.

Table:

Students will be seated by tables. Each table will create a team name and logo. Each team will draft a constitution outlining goals and rules. Tables have the opportunity to earn points for on-task behavior and class participation.

Class:

Each session allows a class to earn five star points. Points are awarded for demonstrations of excellent cooperative learning.  While a class may fail to earn points for the day, points may never be taken away if already earned.

Procedures:

Students will enter the classroom and immediately begin work on their bell ringer assignment. During this time, students are to sharpen pencils and get themselves ready for the day’s lesson.  Students will keep all bell ringer work in their class work folder. The week’s bell ringer activities will be collected on Friday to be graded.

A portion of Friday’s sessions will be reserved for Creative Writing Workshops. These workshops will allow students to better gain an understanding of the writing process, while allowing students to express themselves. Students must publish two writings per nine weeks. These published writings must follow the complete writing process. These writings are separate from the writings done as a class. Each month, the Creative Writing Workshops will focus on areas evaluated on the state writing test, such as: elaboration and details, adjective and adverb usage, formatting, etc.

Homework will be given at least twice times a week and will not be accepted late.

Students who receive less than 70% on any given quiz will have the opportunity to retake the quiz.

Students will only go to their lockers at the following times: 1) Before school begins 2) Before Exploratory Classes 3) When they are dismissed to their buses. 2nd load students must stay in the classroom till dismissed.

Students will be offered an extra credit assignment every nine weeks. The assignment may be used to replace two class work grades or one quiz grade.

Students will walk on the right side of the hall, in a single file line, to all locations in the building. During lunch, students will sit at the designated table. Students will clean their area and push in their chairs before leaving.

AR PROJECT: Students will keep an AR notebook throughout the year. The AR Notebook will be collected and graded based on content every two weeks.  Students will also be given an AR Project that will be due before the end of the nine weeks. Students will be given further information on these assignments.

MS. TRUITT’S BLOG: Students will be required to visit my school blog every week unless otherwise directed not to. The blog will be used to further investigate the literary works we study in class. Students will have until Friday @ 4PM to post an answer to the week’s discussion questions.
