INTRODUCTION

So, you think you may want to go to college.  This WebQuest will take you through a process of exploring careers and colleges using the Web. It is designed to develop skills required in researching potential majors and colleges.

TASK

You are to answer the questions on your own paper and complete the College or University Research worksheet after visiting the linked resources and finding the required information.

1.  Take the interest inventory at the site below.  List six potential careers on your piece of paper:

2. Choose one potential career out of these six that really interests you.

3. Go to "What can I do with a major in …?" and find four related careers. 
 

4. Go to one of the college search engines and search for colleges that offer majors related to your career choice.  List six colleges that offer majors that interest you.

5. Go to the the
College Board College Side-by-Side Comparison Work Sheet and compare three of the colleges you have listed.  Answer the questions on your sheet of paper.

6. Go to the homepage of one of the colleges that you selected.  You can find the homepage using one of the following sites:
     College Guide Wizard
     Virginia View (for
Virginia colleges)
     Google (type in name of college in the search line)

Answer the questions on the College or University Research sheet.


CONCLUSION

When you are satisfied with this aspect of your research, continue your non-Web phase by reading guidebooks, college brochures and viewbooks, going to college fairs, talking to others and visiting the schools. Ask questions and become informed about all aspects of the colleges you are considering.
