-New Business
Welcomed all to the meeting.  The Chair, Dennis Garrett welcomed all new and prospective members to the first Key Club Meeting.  Dennis introduced the officers and sponsors.  Members present were informed that there will be a meeting each month of the school year.  The Key Club officers also welcomed Mrs. Patterson, who will be helping out this year.

Blankets for Babies.  Blankets for Babies is a project where Key Clubbers will be asked to donate blankets, bibs, burp cloths, baby clothes, and other baby accessories.  These items will be donated to help teenage mothers and other mothers in need.  There will be a drop box in the library as well as in room 102.

SPCA. The SPCA is the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  The NRHS Key Club will be collecting pet gear such as litter, food, and old newspapers that will be donated to the SPCA.  Collection boxes will be in the library and in room 102.

Homeless shelter collections.  Another project will benefit the Suffolk Homeless Shelter.  During all lunch shifts next week, the Key Club will be collecting money, new blankets, new pillows, and non-perishable food items that will be donated to the shelter.

The Race for the Cure.  On October 22, 2005 at 8 A.M., Key Clubbers are asked to attend the Race for the Cure in Virginia Beach.  The cost is $2o which will cover a T-shirt and a goodie bag.  Registration forms are due September 30 to Mrs. Hatfield or Mrs. Patterson.  If you would prefer to volunteer, give your name to Mrs. Hatfield and she will provide you with the necessary information.

Key Club Dues.  The Treasurer collected Key Club registration forms.  The forms, which can be picked up in room 102 or the library, are Due by October 30 along with the club dues, $13.  Make checks out to “Nansemond River High School.”

UNICEF.  UNICEF is an annual project supported by the NRHS Key Club.  The boxes will be out next week (visit room 102 or the library).  Your job will be to collect as much money as possible, which will be due to Mrs. Hatfield at the end of October.

Shoe Drive to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.  There are many Hurricane Katrina victims being housed at a hotel in Hampton.  The Key Club asks all members to donate useable shoes to those in need.  Shoes can be dropped off in the library or in room 102.

Money collection for food cards.  The Key Club also asks its members to donate money during all lunch shifts which can go to the purchase of KFC gift cards which will be donated to those hurricane victims in Hampton.

Memorial Garden work day this Saturday.  The Memorial Garden at Nansemond Parkway Elementary School is being weeded this Saturday at 11 a.m.  Lunch will be provided and these hours will go toward the community service seal on your diploma.

Book Drive to begin next week.  In order to benefit the Suffolk Public Library System, students are asked to donate new or gently used books.  There will be a collection in the library as well as room 102 starting next week.
