Creekside Elementary School

Located in the growing suburbs of Northern Suffolk, Creekside Elementary opened its state-of-the-art building in the fall of 2006.  Creekside Elementary School has proven to be a great place to grow and learn!  It is a community of dedicated and energetic staff, involved parents, committed community volunteers, and enthusiastic students. Together, the Gator family strives for excellence.

Our instructional program focuses on providing appropriate challenges for all students in the Virginia Standards of Learning through differentiated instruction and researched based strategies.  The availability of state-of the-art technology supports the staff and students in their academic goals.  As a Title I school, we realize that reading is the cornerstone for academic achievement.  Reading initiatives such as the Accelerator Reading program are supported by all staff members.  Special education teachers have been trained and currently use the multi-sensory Wilson Fundations Reading program in their classes.

The PTA provides support for our students in several ways such as student achievement awards and field day funding.  They also provide assistance with school spirit, student, and staff morale.  In its first year of existence, the Creekside PTA received an Honorable Mention as an Outstanding Local Unit Award.

We are proud of the achievements and strong instructional background of our facility. Mrs. Kim Richardson, our media specialist, was selected Suffolk Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year for the 2007-08 school year and will enter competition in the fall of 2007 as National Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Richardson works to foster a love of reading and books in her students.  She will arrive as Pocahontas to promote a Virginia history lesson or dress as Cat-In-he-Hat to promote Dr. Seuss readers.  Students enjoy invited guests for events such as Real Men Love to Read or the 100th Day of School Celebration; the media center is the learning place to be!

Creekside students are actively involved in school activities.  A mentor program supported by our partners-in-education serves as a way to booster self-esteem and impact success by assisting students in setting academic and personal goals.  Students are provided rich opportunities to broaden their knowledge in the resource areas of music, art, physical education, and technology.  Positive reinforcement programs reward both individuals and entire classrooms for making good choices.  Our students grow through these experiences by becoming role models for one another and by supporting charitable organizations in our community.
