Driver Elementary is a small school with a big heart. With a tradition of academicexcellence, Driver Elementary hascontinued in the success of continued full accreditation. Located in the quaint little town of Driver, the school located in the northern part of the city.

Driver Elementary offers a rich academic program based on the Standards of Learning (SOLs) and strong instruction from our teaching staff. Differentiated instruction and the use of modern technology more than prepare our students to successful academically. The Accelerated Reader program offers students an incentive to read and be recognized for meeting goals. The Accelerated Math program has provided an extra push for our students in the area of math.

Students at Driver Elementary have benefited from grants received from the community. The Wal-Mart store located in Northern Suffolk granted the school $2,250 towards school-wide and instructional needs. The Suffolk Education Foundation granted the school $1500 towards our Accelerated Math program. Driver students are well on their way to becoming successful citizens with a bright future.

Shining Stars
Fourth-grader Everett Lee earned 465 Accelerated Reader points. He was the highest earning student for the 2006-07 school year.
Dawn Wright was the recipient of the Ruritan Award, having the highest grade point average in the fifth grade.
The students and staff raised $794 for the Suffolk Education Foundation. The March of Dimes received a donation of $2,679 from Driver students and staff. Jump Rope for Heart received a donation of $7,713 from Driver students and staff. This school year, $2,900 was raised to support the United Way.


 

2007 Test Scores
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) are a framework of basic skills students in each grade level should learn in English, math, science, social studies, and technology.

The SOL tests are given each spring to measure students' success in meeting these state standards. The 2007 benchmark for elementary grades is a 75% pass rate in English, 70% in math, 70% in science and 70% in history.
