King's Fork High School

Highlights http://kfhs.spsk12.net/

In its second year of existence, King's Fork High School opened the school house doors with an attitude of relentlessness in our quest to be the best.
We are exceptionally proud of our staff and  student body for earning full state accreditation. This year’s expectations are unsurpassed academically and athletically as evidenced in the following accomplishments:

The girls’ basketball team was the first Suffolk girls’ basketball team to reach the Eastern Regional Tournament since Suffolk’s high schools transitioned to AAA in 1996.   The Lady Bulldogs were also named the Southeastern District Sportsmanship Team of the Year. The Dog Pound Players produced an award-winning one act play, titled “Greater Tuna,” which won state honors this past winter. The Academic Team has been accepted to participate in the WHRO’s Battle of the Brains to be filmed in the fall of 2006.

Growing with Emerging Technology

As we seek to integrate technology effectively into our curriculum and instructional design and settings, students are taking full advantage of technology’s ready accessibility to research, track and complete assignments and fulfill capstone requirements. To aid their efforts, our school is equipped with state of the art technology such as mini-computer labs between each set of two classrooms, Interactive Smart Boards, an information retrieval system in the media center that allows information to be dispensed to each individual classroom in various ways, and electronic bulletin boards which run daily in the cafeteria on three flat screen televisions which help keep students informed of pertinent and time-sensitive information.

Life at the ‘Kennel’ is fun and exciting and there are many opportunities for student development, leadership and achievement through what we offer academically and through extracurricular activities, constantly encouraging and challenging them to the infinite degree.

The reason we get the best from our students is because we expect no less than the best from them! Woof  Woof!

The School-Student-Parent and Community Relationship
Strong Schools are the result of a strong school-student-parent- and community relationship.  Fostering a stronger relationship with the parent community, KFHS opened a Parent Resource Center during the academic year.  Located in our Guidance Department, parents are encouraged to visit it and pick up brochures and pamphlets on a number of topics ranging from teen pregnancy, teen drug use, coping mechanisms to career planning.

Community involvement is very important to us. We value the benefits of partnerships through three local business enterprises who provide donations and services in kind, monetarily and instructionally.  We salute the partnering efforts of:
