King’s Fork Middle School is committed to providing a challenging education so that students are equipped with basic as well as critical thinking skills in order to be productive in the competitive, technological, and culturally diverse society of the 21st century.  By using the teaming approach, faculty and staff are able to meet together to monitor student progress as well as plan lessons and share teaching strategies.  The Accelerated Reader program is part of the instructional day for all students.

This state-of-the-art facility includes a distance learning laboratory, Media Center with a technology laboratory, and a full-sized gymnasium designed for after-school community use.  All classrooms are connected to the Media Center via telephone and television monitors.  Each classroom has a computer connected to a large-screen monitor as well as at least two additional computers so that students may participate in technology enhanced instruction.

King’s Fork Middle School just a three-year Virginia Department of Education’s Comprehensive School Reform grant. This competitive grant has provided for staff development for the faculty to continually strive to improve student achievement.

The administrative staff has an open door policy where students, parents, and staff are always welcome.  Principal Talmadge Darden sees King’s Fork Middle School as a place where “Great Kids are Doing Great Things With a Great Staff”.

Shining Stars
Kelly Greening, a 7th-grade science & pre-Algebra teacher, was named the city-wide 2007 Middle School Teacher of the Year for Suffolk Public Schools.

Students and Staff of King’s Fork Middle School have raised more than $4,200 to be donated to the following charities:  American Heart Association, United Way, Suffolk Education Foundation, and the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

Fifteen KFMS students were selected for All-District Chorus.

The King’s Fork Middle School FBLA Chapter was recognized for having the second Largest Middle School Chapter Membership in the Tidewater Region.

Craig Hardman, a strings student, represented KFMS in the 2007 Junior Regional Orchestra.

Close to 200 volunteers contributed a total of 635 hours of service in 2006-07.
7th grader, Fletcher  Stephens, was cast as a harmonica playing band member in the new movie "Bolden". The movie will chronicle the life of jazz musician Buddy Bolden.

2007 Test Scores
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) are a framework of basic skills students in each grade level should learn in English, math, science, social studies, and technology.

The SOL tests are given each spring to measure students' success in meeting these state standards. State benchmarks for 2007 is a 70 percent pass rate in all subjects.
