Standards of Learning Online 2002-2003 |
|
| New for 2002-2003 School Year | |
As many returning teachers know, last year Suffolk Public Schools began collecting district standardized test scores online using SOLO (Standards of Learning Online) system, a locally developed web application .Throughout the course of the year, SOLO was accessed over 27,000 times by staff members and collected over 275,000 student test scores. In addition to the data collection effort, online SOL testing took place for 7th and 4th graders at a local middle and elementary school. Students took simulated state SOL tests in their computer lab; both students and teachers received the results back within seconds of completion.
Although SOLO was a moderate success, there were several areas for improvement. Recommendations from staff and students went into the re-design of SOLO for the 2002-03 school year. The chief recommendations were to make the user logon names shorter, make the test scores easier to enter, and to make the checklists easier and faster to print. Here's some of the changes we've made:
When you log onto SOLO, you
will now use your Windows username (e.g. John Smith = johsmith) and password;
this is the same account you log into the computer with. Once you have
logged in successfully, go to the eChecklist link to get started entering
student scores. For more detailed directions on how to use SOLO's eChecklist, consult the help link in the upper portion of the webpage. If there are several staff members who would like on-site assistance with SOLO, contact your building's front office to schedule a training session for your site with the Technology Center.
