Seal of Biliteracy
Seal of Biliteracy: Your Voice, Your Advantage
The Suffolk Public Schools Seal of Biliteracy Awareness Video highlights the incredible opportunity for juniors and seniors to earn the Virginia Board of Education Seal of Biliteracy — a prestigious recognition awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language.
This video features student voices from across all three of our SPS high schools, who share, in their native languages, why earning the Seal matters. From celebrating cultural heritage to strengthening college applications and expanding career opportunities, students speak authentically about how biliteracy shapes their identity and future.
The Seal of Biliteracy is more than a credential — it is recognition on a student’s diploma that signals global readiness, academic excellence, and real-world skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in multiple languages. It honors hard work, affirms multilingualism as an asset, and positions students for scholarships, employability, and competitive advantage in college admissions. Our school division proud to celebrate biliteracy as a pathway to opportunity, equity, and connection in an increasingly multilingual world.
