National School Breakfast Week March 2 - 6

Getting More Students to Blast Off with Breakfast!
Posted on 03/03/2020

To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available for school breakfast, Suffolk Public Schools will celebra
te National School Breakfast Week during March 2-6, 2020.

The National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) campaign theme, “Out of This World,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students.

School breakfast provides a foundation for learning as it supports academic performance, improved attendance, and more nourished students. Participation in school breakfast also improves a student’s daily dietary intake of important vitamins and minerals.

Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
  • Score higher on standardized tests
  • Have better concentration and memory
  • Be more alert
  • Maintain a healthy weight

School nutrition professionals and students will be encouraged to show their enthusiasm for school breakfast from March 2-6 as the district celebrates with special menus, cafeteria events, and more.

SPS will host the following events:
- A food tasting in conjunction with the Math and Science Night on Tuesday, March 10 from 5:30 - 6:30 at Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary.
- A food tasting at John F. Kennedy Middle School on Thursday, March 26 during students' lunch periods. All Suffolk School Board personnel are welcome!
- Free Breakfast to ALL students on Friday, March 6.
