Food & Nutrition Services
All Suffolk Public Schools Students are Eligible to Receive Breakfast and Lunch at No Cost For The 2025- 2026 School Year.
Suffolk Public Schools’ Food & Nutrition Services provides nutritionally balanced, free meals to more than 14,000 students each day, serving approximately 8,500 lunches and 6,000 breakfasts daily. Research consistently shows that access to healthy, nutritious meals supports students’ academic performance, social development, and overall well-being.
School meals are designed to meet strict federal nutrition standards, providing about one-quarter of daily nutritional needs at breakfast and one-third at lunch for key nutrients such as calories, vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium. Established under the National School Lunch Act of 1946 and regulated by the USDA through the Virginia Department of Education, the program promotes student health by offering affordable, appealing meals that align with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and support nutrition education and district wellness goals.
