SUN Bucks (Summer EBT Information for Families)

Did you know? Receiving free school meals through Suffolk Public Schools does not automatically qualify every student for Virginia SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) benefits.

Students who are directly certified through programs such as SNAP, TANF, or qualifying income-based Medicaid will receive SUN Bucks benefits automatically. However, because Suffolk Public Schools participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), families should not assume their child is automatically eligible simply because meals are provided at no cost to all students.

If your child did not receive SUN Bucks but you believe your household may qualify based on income, you are encouraged to apply directly through the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). Applications are processed by VDSS—not Suffolk Public Schools.
