Section 504 Information
Secion 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Definitions and Standards of Section 504: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is a civil rights statute for persons with disabilities. Section 504 states:
No otherwise qualified individual with a disability . . . shall, solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. ... 29 USC § 794(a)
What is discrimination?
Discrimination is the exclusion from participation in or the denial of benefits of any program or activity receiving or benefiting from Federal financial assistance. Students may not be denied participation in or be denied benefit from services that are afforded nondisabled students. ... 34 CFR § 104.4
