Congratulations to Mr. Nicholas Wright for being selected as the SPS 2023 - 2024 Rookie Teacher of the Year! Mr. Wright is the CTE Technology Teacher at Nansemond River High School.

With the help of students in the Nansemond River High School Project Lead the Way Engineering program, The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated donated three "Tiny Libraries" to BTWES, EFES and MBJES to help literacy efforts in SPS.

April is the Month of the Military Child. SPS celebrates Jade Pagan Abreu, a Senior at NRHS named Naval Station Norfolk's 2024 Youth of the Year. Ms. Abreu won the state championship and now represents Virginia in the regional Military Youth of the Year competition.

The Student Council Association (SCA) at Kilby Shores Elementary School is active in giving back to their community. This year, the students sponsored a fundraiser to raise money for the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters Education Department.

Drive Safe Hampton Roads

Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) recognized nineteen local high schools for their participation in the Get It Together Seat Belt Challenge. King’s Fork High School won Silver with a total of 1,525 education points and 78.65% seatbelt usage. Lakeland High School won Bronze with a total of 225 education points and 99.32% seat belt usage.

As Prom season approaches, 13 News Now sheds light on Ms. Candace Credle, Marketing Teacher at NRHS and the NRHS Student DECA Chapter for easing the financial burden for families by providing FREE prom dresses at their 4th Annual "Gowns for Crowns."
