Steps in the Application Process

SEE BELOW FOR DETAILED STEPS ON HOW TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

-Please Read Thoroughly-

1️⃣ Get Ready-Gather Your Documents 
       Before applying, make sure you have these important items: 
            ✔ Child’s certified birth certificate
            ✔ Parent/guardian photo ID (e.g., driver’s license)
            ✔ Proof of Suffolk residency
                     One of the following: current lease, mortgage statement, utility bill
                   dated within the last 30 days-electric, gas, or water

            ✔ Proof of income
                     At least one of the following for each parent/guardian: W-2 (2025), 1099
                  (2025), 2 recent pay stubs, social security/disability income, unemployment 
                   letter, veteran’s benefits, retirement income, child support

            ✔ Any documents related to custody or your child’s learning support needs,
                    such as an IEP or special education referral (if applicable) 

2️⃣ Use PowerSchool to Apply 
         The application is completed online through PowerSchool: 
        🔹 If your family is new to Suffolk Public Schools — create a PowerSchool account.
        🔹 If you already have a student in the district — log into your existing account.
        🔹 During registration, choose “New Student Registration 2026-2027”.
        🔹 Important: When asked for your child’s enrolling grade, select “Early Start”.

3️⃣ Upload Documents
          After filling in the application form in PowerSchool, upload the documents
          you gathered in "Step 1"" to your PowerSchool Application. This helps avoid
          delays in processing your application. 

4️⃣ Attend Screening (Early Start Only)
             
Once your application is submitted and reviewed, you'll be contacted to
          schedule a screening appointment for your child. The child(ren) and
          the parent/guardian MUST attend the screening to advance in the
          application process. Screening appointments will begin in March.

          *Tentative acceptance and waitlist letters will be emailed by July 16, 2026*
