Encouraging Families to Schedule Back-to-School Health Appointments Early!

We are encouraging families to begin preparing now for the 2026–2027 school year by scheduling back-to-school health appointments early, including required immunizations and physicals. Students enrolling in public and private schools must meet immunization requirements before the start of the school year. Rising seventh-grade and twelfth-grade students may need additional vaccinations, making early appointments especially important. Families are encouraged to contact their child’s healthcare provider or local health department as soon as possible to secure summer appointments, as availability often becomes limited closer to the start of school.

The VDH also reminds families that financial assistance for vaccines may be available. Those needing support can call 800-568-1929 for additional information and assistance. Families can learn more about Virginia’s back-to-school immunization information by visiting: vdh.virginia.gov/backtoschool.
