Lakeland High School and Nansemond River High School Receive National Recognition from Project Lead The Way

Suffolk Public Schools is proud to announce that both Lakeland High School and Nansemond River High School have been recognized as 2025-2026 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished schools. These schools are among a select group of high schools across the U.S. to receive this honor, for their commitment to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in career-connected learning. Through the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program (at Lakeland High School) and Engineering program (at Nansemond River High School), students are developing transferable skills needed to succeed in an evolving future.

“This recognition reflects the intentional work happening across Suffolk Public Schools to provide students with meaningful, real-world learning experiences that prepare them for success beyond graduation,” said Dr. John B. Gordon III, Superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools. “Through programs like PLTW, our students are not only building critical academic knowledge, but also gaining the problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation skills that are essential in today’s workforce. We are incredibly proud of the students, teachers, and school leaders at Lakeland and Nansemond River for this outstanding achievement.”

Lakeland and Nansemond River High Schools are part of a national community of PreK-12 schools, higher education institutions, and more than 100 industry partners united in the mission to prepare students for school, work, and life.
