Suffolk Public Schools Hosts Successful Inaugural Lego Robotics Competition for Elementary Students

Suffolk Public Schools Technology proudly hosted the first-ever SPS Future Builders Cup on Saturday at King’s Fork High School—and what an incredible day of innovation, teamwork, and creativity! Students in grades 3–5 from nine elementary schools came together to design, build, and program robots using LEGO® Spike Essentials kits, tackling a surprise real-world challenge revealed during the opening ceremony. From coding to collaboration, our young learners rose to the occasion and impressed us all with their problem-solving skills and ingenuity.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievements across multiple categories:

  1. Teamwork Award: NPES Brave Bot Builders

  2. Coding Award: OES Brickinators

  3. Innovation Award: NSES Thunderbolts

  4. Presentation Award: HES Golden Husky LEGO Pack

The highest honor of the day, Overall Winner, was awarded to BTWES Build-A-Bears, whose performance stood out for excellence across all aspects of the competition. Events like the Future Builders Cup showcase the power of hands-on learning—sparking curiosity, building confidence, and inspiring the next generation of innovators and leaders in STEM.
