Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk Public Schools Plan on Moving Graduation Ceremonies to Chartway Arena

Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk public school systems are making plans to move graduation ceremonies from the high school stadiums of King's Fork, Lakeland, and Nansemond River to Chartway Arena (formerly the Ted Constant Center and located on the opposite side of Hampton Blvd.). This decision comes in response to Governor Northam's May 14, 2021 announcement calling for the easing of distancing and capacity restrictions starting Friday, May 28. The school systems are anticipating that the distancing and capacity restrictions will be lifted, and graduation ceremonies can commence indoors at the Chartway Arena, which has previously been the norm. If restrictions are not eased as anticipated, all graduations will take place at our respective high school stadiums as originally planned.

ODU is working with Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk high schools to ensure that all mitigation protocols are followed so that graduates and their families can celebrate safely as possible and experience a memorable occasion. Each 2021 graduate will be allotted eight (8) tickets for the ceremony.

All Suffolk Public Schools graduation ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021. The Lakeland High School graduation ceremony will take place at 9 A.M., King's Fork High School at 12:30 P.M., and Nansemond River High School at 4 P.M.
