UVA Cohort Members Receive Scholarships

Each year UVA awards students with recognitions, fellowships, scholarships, etc. Three UVA students who are also SPS staff members were nominated, and two received scholarship awards.

Latreesha Herring (Spanish and FLEX teacher at JYMS) was nominated for the Philip Morris Award, a highly competitive School of Education award.

The two program award nominations in the Educational Leadership Foundations & Policy Department were Kayla Jackson and Dawn Rountree.

Kayla Jackson (SPED teacher at NSES) received the Samuel Marx Scholarship, which was established by Ellie Marcus Marx in memory of her husband Samuel Marx and as an expression of appreciation for being the first recipient of a Master of Arts degree granted during a summer session at the University.

Dawn Rountree (PLTW-Engineering lead teacher at NRHS) received the Raymond Hale Scholarship. This Scholarship is awarded to students focused on administration and supervision at the secondary/high school level at the School of Education and Human Development, with strong consideration for students that are or have the intent to become high school principals and who show a strong sense of purpose, determination and work ethic, and who exude excellence and integrity in all aspects of life.
