2018 High School Summer School

The 2018 High School Summer Program will be held at Nansemond River High School. 

Summer School Sessions will be held Mondays through Thursdays from July 2 through August 2, 2018.

The summer school administrator is Tara Worley.

Registration

All students must receive prior approval, in writing from their principal, in order to enroll in the Suffolk Public Schools' High School Summer Program.


Suffolk Residents

Registration will be available from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at King’s Fork High School, Lakeland High School, and Nansemond River High School from May 3, 2018 through June 21, 2018. 

There will be NO Friday registration after June 16, 2018.  A signed Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Policy (AUP) will be required with both parent and student signatures.

After June 21, 2018, registration will be accepted only at Nansemond River High School.  Proof of residency and permission letters are required for non-Suffolk Public Schools' students. 


Non-Suffolk Residents

Registration will be available from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Nansemond River High School on Thursday, June 21, 2018 (cash or money order only).

Tuition must be paid in full at the time of registration.  Personal checks for tuition will be accepted until June 18, 2018.  After this date, tuition must be paid in cash or by money order.

Suffolk Residents

1 Repeat Course    $200.00

2 Repeat Courses  $350.00

1 New Course        $350.00

 

Non-Suffolk Residents

1 Repeat Course    $250.00

2 Repeat Courses  $450.00

1 New Course        $450.00

 

Suffolk Public Schools' students receiving free or reduced lunch are eligible for a discount. Contact school for details.

Schedule

High School Summer Program will meet daily, Monday through Thursday.  Dates and times for the sessions are listed below.  Students do not have the option of selecting summer course sections.  The staff will assign students to course sections based on enrollment.  Students taking a single repeat course will be assigned either a morning or an afternoon section.  Students taking two repeat courses or a new course will attend all day.

All Day                      7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Break                        11:30 AM – 12:00 PM

 

Breakfast is provided – Lunch is NOT provided


**Some courses may be offered in a virtual or blended format due to enrollment**


The Graduation Ceremony will be held in the Nansemond River High School auditorium.  The time will be announced at a later date.


Attendance

Students will be dropped from a class if incurring the following absences: 

  • New Courses:After a total of 2 days 
  • Repeat Courses:After a total of 1 day


Tuition will not be refunded.  Students who plan to attend conventions, summer camps, conferences, athletic contests, or go on vacation during summer school should not enroll in the program.  All students are expected to be on time for classes.  Three tardies in a class equates to one day’s absence.  (Tardy = late to class)

Discipline

Students enrolled in the Suffolk Public Schools' High School Summer Program are expected to follow the rules and regulations enforced during the regular school year.  If a student is dismissed because of his or her conduct, tuition will not be refunded.  Dress code policy must be adhered to.
