** High School Summer School

The 2019 High School Summer Program will be held at King's Fork High School. 

Summer School Sessions will be held Mondays through Thursdays from July 1 through August 1, 2019.

The summer school administrator is Derrick Bryant. 

Questions should be directed to your high school guidance counselor. 

NEW this YEAR 

High School Summer Program will be offered in a virtual or blended format for the 2019 summer session. 

However, each teacher will provide weekly office hours where students will be afforded the opportunity to receive instructional support. 

Students are required to report to summer school on the first day, July 1, 2019 to set up accounts, receive a class syllabus, and discuss expectations of the course(s).  Dates and times are listed below. 

Students do not have the option of selecting summer course sections.  The staff will assign students to course sections based on enrollment.  Students taking a single repeat course will be assigned either a morning or an afternoon section.

Registration

Registration will be available from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at King’s Fork High School, Lakeland High School, and Nansemond River High School from May 1, 2019 through June 20, 2019. 

There will be NO Friday registration after June 14, 2019.  A signed Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Policy (AUP) will be required with both parent and student signatures.

All out-of-district students must receive prior approval, in writing from their principal, in order to enroll in Suffolk Public Schools' high school summer program. Proof of residency and permission letters are required for non-Suffolk Public Schools' students.

Schedule

High School Summer Program will meet daily, Monday through Thursday.  Dates and times for the sessions are listed below.  Students do not have the option of selecting summer course sections.  The staff will assign students to course sections based on enrollment.  Students taking a single repeat course will be assigned either a morning or an afternoon section.  Students taking two repeat courses or a new course will attend all day.

Breakfast is provided – Lunch is NOT provided

 

The Graduation Ceremony for all schools will be held in the King's Fork High School auditorium at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31. 


Attendance

Students will dropped from a course if they are absent for more than two (2) days from a new course and more than one (1) day from a repeat course.  Tuition will not be refunded.  Students must be on time for classes.  If a student receives three (3) tardies in a class, that will equal one (1) absence.  Students taking virtual or blended courses are required to work on their online modules as their progress will be monitored by teachers daily.  At any time, if a student’s progress should fall below 10% or more of the target completion percentage, they risk having their course disabled and failing for the summer. 

Discipline

Students enrolled in the Suffolk Public Schools' High School Summer Program are expected to follow the rules and regulations enforced during the regular school year.  If a student is dismissed because of his or her conduct, tuition will not be refunded.  Dress code policy must be adhered to.
