Kilby Shores Elementary School, King's Fork Middle School & John Yeates Middle School Receive Peggy Kubert Model School & Four Pillar Awards
Suffolk Public Schools is proud to announce three schools recognized for their commitment to mental health education and inclusive school culture by Erika’s Lighthouse, a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness in schools.
Kilby Shores Elementary School has been named a Peggy Kubert Model School in Mental Health Excellence, a recognition awarded to schools that excel at tier-1 mental health programming by working within an effective multi-tiered system of support. This designation celebrates Kilby Shores Elementary’s dedication to creating an inclusive school culture that supports students, staff, and families.
Additionally, John Yeates Middle School and King’s Fork Middle School have been recognized as Peggy Kubert Four Pillar Award Recipients. A Four Pillar School follows the Four Pillar Model by implementing programs across education, student leadership, family engagement, and staff training, all focused on building a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment for all.
“This recognition highlights the commitment of our educators and staff to creating environments where students feel supported academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Dr. John B. Gordon III, Superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools. “Kilby Shores Elementary, John Yeates Middle, and King’s Fork Middle are setting the standard for how schools can prioritize student well-being and mental health.”
In addition to the school-level recognitions, Suffolk Public Schools as a division received Honorable Mentions for Educating Students, Engaging Families, and Equipping Staff, reflecting a districtwide commitment to promoting mental health, increasing awareness, and building strong support systems across all schools.
By utilizing the full suite of Erika’s Lighthouse programs—or identifying other resources that best meet their communities’ needs—schools can join a growing network dedicated to promoting good mental health.
Suffolk Public Schools congratulates the staff, students, and families of Kilby Shores Elementary, John Yeates Middle, and King’s Fork Middle Schools for this achievement and their dedication to creating positive school cultures where every student can thrive.
