Early Start Program Registration
The Early Start program registration begins today, February 7, 2023.
The Early Start/VPI (Virginia Preschool Initiative) program is designed to reduce disparities among young children upon formal school entry and to reduce or eliminate risk factors that lead to early academic failure.
This program is for children who turn four years old by September 30, 2023, and who need an extra year to prepare for success in kindergarten.
Eligibility criteria include, but are not limited to, these factors:
- Family income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines (or below 350% for students with special needs or disabilities)
- Family homelessness
- Parents/guardians lack a high school diploma
- Language and development assessment of the child
Accepted students are not guaranteed placement in a home-zoned school. School placement will be determined based on Early Start zoning. Transportation is provided.
