Virginia Quality Birth to Five or VQB5 measures the quality of preschool teaching and learning based on teacher-child interactions and curriculum usage, to ensure the best start for our young learners. We are very proud to announce that ALL OF OUR SPS Early Start Pre-K and Early Childhood Special Education classrooms successfully met Virginia's quality expectations for the 2023-24 school year.

Every Early Childhood classroom used a state-approved curriculum and participated in multiple observations to earn a “meets expectations” rating for all 11 elementary schools. Each school received a VDOE certificate to proudly display in their buildings to highlight the strength and success of our early childhood programs.
