Department of Fine and Performing Arts Featuring 2024 Spring All-City Honors Music Concerts

SUFFOLK, VAFebruary 7, 2024Suffolk Public Schools Department of Fine and Performing Arts is excited to announce its annual All-City Honors Music Concerts. Each year, we proudly highlight the outstanding achievements of our middle school band and orchestra programs, as well as the collaborative performances of middle and high school choral programs, with the participation of elementary students.

During these events, students from all our schools come together to showcase their talents in their chosen disciplines, guided by conductors from the Suffolk fine and performing arts team. The All-City Honors Middle and High School Band Concert is set for Friday, February 16, 2024, at King’s Fork Middle School at 7 PM. Mr. Bernard Bradley from King’s Fork High School will direct the middle school honors band, and Mr. Russell Andrews from Col. Fred Cherry Middle School will direct the high school honors band.

The orchestra event will be held at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 7 PM. Mr. Christopher Stadler from Northern Shores Elementary and Ms. Courtney DeBerry from Florence Bowser Elementary will direct, showcasing the diverse talents of our SPS music directors.

In collaboration with The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, the All-City Honors Elementary, Middle, and High School Choral Concert is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2024, at 7 PM at the Center. Featuring guest conductors for high schools, Mrs. Karen Waddell will direct the middle school choir, and Ms. Jamilla Ford will lead the elementary group. This special partnership between SCCA and SPS presents an extraordinary concert celebrating Suffolk's exceptional talent.

Students selected for All-City Honors ensembles undergo auditions and must have been previously chosen for District ensembles or specifically auditioned for city honors. The spring all-city honors concerts have become a beloved tradition in the Suffolk community, celebrating the beauty of music in our public schools.
