Recognition of Mrs. Debra Shapiro at ITEEA Conference

Mrs. Debra Shapiro was honored at the 87th International Technology and Engineering Educators Association Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, from March 7 - 9. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President over the past 3 years, serving from March 2021 to March 2024.

During her tenure, Mrs. Shapiro played a pivotal role in key organizational activities. She actively contributed to the executive director/CEO search committee, engaged in budget planning, and oversaw various committees and task forces. Notably, she presided over the successful execution of the 2023 86th International Technology and Engineering Educators Association Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and spearheaded other significant initiatives within the association.

Prior to her current role, Mrs. Shapiro served as the Region 1 Director at ITEEA, fostering collaboration among members and affiliated associations in northeast Canada and the Eastern United States. Her extensive experience also includes leadership positions at the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association, where she held roles such as President-Elect, President (2 terms), and Immediate Past President, in addition to various committee and board positions.

Mrs. Shapiro made a mark in Suffolk Public Schools by becoming the first female technology education teacher in 1990 at Forest Glen Middle School. She later assumed the role of technology lead teacher from 2003 to 2006 and taught Technology Education at King's Fork Middle School from 2006 to 2014 before returning to Forest Glen to continue her dedication to Technology Education.
