Fifth-graders at Hillpoint Elementary learned about how animal adapt to new environments during a adaptation simulation. Students from Booker T. Washington Elementary School recently delivered cookies and milk to their community partners from Suffolk Fire Station 3. Cadets in Air Force Junior ROTC at Nansemond River High recently raised $400 to sponsor children in Haiti, providing school supplies, lunches and uniforms. Henry the Hand helps students at Florence  Bowser Elementary learn about cough etiquette and proper handwashing to prevent the spread of cold and flu germs. Teachers from Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary took their show on the road, visiting Hoffler Apartments as part of its outreach to provide families with math and reading support in the community. Second-graders at Pioneer Elementary painted Native American symbols on simulated buffalo hides as part of their lessons on the Plains Indians.
