Painting the town for the holidays ... These Creekside Elementary student artists are decorating downtown store windows with holiday cheer as part of an annual tradition to showcase student talent throughout the communit Nansemond River High's FCCLA members gathered small toys, school supplies, and personal care items to send shoebox gifts to children in third-world countries. Many schools hosted Breakfast with Santa events, including the one seen here at Florence Bowser Elementary. The library at King's Fork High shared its holiday cheer with its Bookmas Tree, created from more than 600 books. Creekside Elementary School had a real-life Elf on the Shelf this week, which including Elf reading to students during library time from atop the shelves. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus ... presented by the King's Fork High School drama club to several classes. Fifth-graders at Hillpoint Elementary learned about how animal adapt to new environments during a adaptation simulation. Winter Break begins Friday, Dec. 19 with early dismissal.  Schools, departments and offices will be closed for two weeks, reopening on Monday, Jan. 5.
