Fifth-graders at Pioneer Elementary School shared their talents at the new school's dedication ceremony on Nov. 9. Turlington Woods School recently presented a breast cancer awareness program on Halloween called Pink-a-Boo, which included a breast cancer survivor speaker and a pink-out fashion show. Even though the boat was docked in the Northern Shores Elementary parking lot, these students learned about careers in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bugs, cotton, pigs and more ... Second-graders city-wide learned first-hand about agriculture in Suffolk at this year's Farm Day. Learning about helpers in the community, these 4-year-olds in the Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary Early Start program dressed the part of firefighter, fisherman, mail career, chef, and more. Parent University held Saturday, Nov. 15 provided a workshop on Parenting the Strong-Willed Child, where this group practiced how to turn negative labels into strengths. An Oakland Elementary tradition for more than 20 years ... Celebrating Thanksgiving with a Chiefs' Feast lunch for students' fathers and other male family members. These 4-year-olds joined Early Start students across the city in celebrating Thanksgiving by learning about Native Americans, and dressing up, of course!
