Suffolk Elementary Students Shine at the 9th Annual "Battle of the Books" Competition

Young readers from across the City of Suffolk gathered for the 9th annual "Battle of the Books" competition, a spirited literary showdown that brings together students from public, private, and home-schools to celebrate the power of reading. The event challenges student teams to read from a curated list of books and test their knowledge in a fast-paced, trivia-style contest.

This year, students from six Suffolk Public Schools elementary campuses participated in the competition: Booker T. Washington Elementary, Creekside Elementary, Florence Bowser Elementary, Mack Benn Jr. Elementary, Northern Shores Elementary, and Oakland Elementary.

Congratulations are in order for all of the students who participated and showcased their dedication to reading and teamwork. A special shoutout goes to Creekside Elementary’s “Team Book Devourers” and Florence Bowser Elementary’s “Team Book Rats,” both of whom placed in the top four.

Suffolk Public Schools extends heartfelt thank you to the Suffolk Public Library for their continued partnership and support in organizing and hosting this annual event. We appreciate their dedication to promoting literacy and creating enriching experiences for students.

Events like "Battle of the Books" not only highlight academic excellence, but also foster a lifelong love of literature among students.
