The S.T.A.R. Leadership Program: Growing Our Own Future Leaders; Celebrate the 2024-25 Cohort

The S.T.A.R. Leadership Program, an initiative of Suffolk Public Schools (SPS), is paving the way for support staff to unlock new opportunities and grow their careers. This innovative program focuses on professional development, mentorship, and collaboration, equipping support personnel with the core skills needed to become tomorrow's leaders.

The program creates career pathways for SPS support staff, emphasizing the value of "growing our own" future leaders. By bridging Career and Technical Education, adult learning, and interdepartmental collaboration, the program offers a unique blend of professional learning tailored to today's evolving workplace demands.

Participants in the program met twice a month with dedicated mentors who guide and support their professional journey. Quarterly after-hours meetings helped foster further growth, offering opportunities for participants to engage with SPS professionals on thought-provoking topics through readings and discussions. Graduates of the program earn a 5-point advantage on their next SPS interview, a significant boost for career advancement within the organization. This incentive underscores SPS's commitment to nurturing talent from within and supporting the aspirations of its workforce.

The S.T.A.R. Leadership Program's success is evident in its participation rates. This year, the program received 19 applications, with 18 mentors stepping forward to provide guidance and expertise. This robust mentorship network ensures that each participant receives personalized support, enhancing their learning experience and preparing them for leadership roles. S.T.A.R exemplifies SPS's dedication to fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and opportunity.

As the program continues to shine as a beacon of what can be achieved through mentorship, professional learning, and a shared commitment to excellence, we congratulate the following support staff members apart of this year's cohort for a job well done!:
