    Sponsored by the Special Olympics Virginia, Little Feet Meet events are held in school divisions across the state as a way for schools to engage students with and without intellectual disabilities. The Little Feet Meet specifically, is a culmination of Special Olympics’ partnership with local schools to build inclusive communities and a level playing field for athletes of all abilities. We want every student at every school to know that we celebrate all abilities and we believe in this inclusive community that Special Olympics is helping to build.

    Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter, in partnership with many local businesses and organizations, hosted their 4th annual Gowns for Crowns Prom Dress Giveaway on March 16th. Young ladies from all over Hampton Roads were able to find a beautiful, gently used dress for their prom.

    Youth Art Festival 2024

    In conjunction with YAM (Youth Art Month), Suffolk Public Schools Department of Fine and Performing Arts expanded this event to include all of our programs in the Spring arts festival. Held at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, the festival featured music, theatre, and music production performances, as well as various community partners and vendors.

    ODU Athletes Read to SPS Elementary Students

    Old Dominion University student athletes volunteered a couple hours of their day at SPS elementary schools, reading to 3rd grade students. In partnership with the United Way of Hampton Roads, Kilby Shores Elementary School, Nansemond Parkway Elementary School, and Booker T. Washington Elementary School students were able to meet and ask questions to athletes who play the sports they watch and aspire to play.

    15th Annual CTE Professional Student Conference

    The 15th Annual Career & Technical Education Professional Student Conference, held at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront, provides 9th-grade students an opportunity to interact with career-related programs offered in Suffolk Public Schools. Instructors from the College and Career Academy at Pruden engaged students in workplace activities within the Cosmetology/Master Barber, Culinary Arts, and Emergency Medical Technician career fields.
