Why is Suffolk Public Schools introducing AI tools?
Artificial Intelligence is becoming a standard part of modern workplaces and educational environments. Providing students with guided access helps them:

Will students be required to use AI tools?
No. These tools are available to support learning, but they are not required for all assignments. Teachers will decide when and how AI may be used in their classrooms.

Can students use AI to complete their assignments?
Not unless a teacher has explicitly permitted it.
If allowed, students may use AI to:

Brainstorm or gather ideas

Revise or improve writing

Practice skills and receive feedback
Students may not submit AI-generated work as their own. Doing so is considered scholastic dishonesty under the SPS Student Code of Conduct.

How will student privacy and data be protected?
Suffolk Public Schools partners with The Educational Collaborative (TEC) to ensure all tools meet state and federal security standards.
Through the National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA) with Virginia addendums, SPS ensures:-

Vendors must follow strict data protection requirements

Information is only used for educational purposes

Do families need to sign anything for students to use these tools?
No additional forms are required at this time.
However, students must have a signed Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on file to access school technology. This is reviewed and signed during enrollment or at the start of the school year.

How will appropriate use be taught?
Teachers and students will receive guidance on:
