The "ParentTalks" Reading Video Series is a set of six short (under-five-minute) video series that gives parents evidence-based strategies to support their child’s reading success.
Topics include: creating a strong family reading habit; helping children build comprehension and reading skills; instilling a love of reading; supporting a struggling reader; making read-alouds come to life; and connecting reading to real life. The videos are designed with busy families in mind — and are available in both English and Spanish.
By making reading visible, accessible and part of the everyday home routine, these videos help families turn reading into a partnership that supports student achievement and fosters lifelong literacy habits. This resource aligns with Suffolk Public Schools’ commitment to family engagement and to strengthening reading outcomes by providing parents and caregivers with practical, actionable tools to support their children at home.
